Caffe Sanora Opens the Nation's First Healthy Coffee Shop
DENVER, Colorado - (October 2005) - The Upper Colfax neighborhood's urban renaissance continues with the grand opening of Caffe Sanora on 1245 East Colfax, between Marion and Lafayette streets. Caffe Sanora is the first coffee house in Denver -- and the nation -- to serve the only healthy, antioxidant-rich coffee that's creating a buzz everywhere, Open Monday-Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the caffe, named after the national coffee brand Caffe Sanora, is poised to become a hub for this revitalized, on-the-go neighborhood surrounded by a historic architectural landscape and located just minutes from downtown Denver. Colorful and teeming with European sophistication and design, the new coffee house captures two national trends: choosing healthier versions of favorite foods and beverages like coffee, and being part of a re-invented neighborhood phenomenon known as the “new urbanism” or “neo-traditionalism.” “There is a national trend of in-migration back into America's central cities,” reports the Colfax Business Improvement District (CBID). It is estimated that at the peak of urban flight in the 70's and 80's, the Capitol Hill area lost more than 25 percent of its population base. According to CBID, demographers estimate more than 4,000 people have moved back into the neighborhoods in just the past five years to help recreate a “town” of 53,866 people. Caffe Sanora owner David Boyan, a Colorado High School teacher for ten years, was part of the in-migration to the Upper Colfax neighborhood. Inspired by the renaissance and beautification of the area, Boyan began to think of a business that would fit in with the hip lifestyle. His sister Loretta Zapp, CEO of coffee brand Caffe Sanora, provided the seeds, or in this case the coffee beans, that became Caffe Sanora. “I just love this coffee and the idea of opening the nation's first healthy coffee caffe became my dream,” says Boyan. Initially he planned to open Caffe Sanora later in life, “but opportunity came knocking and things began to fall into place very quickly.” Available at retail locations in Colorado, each cup of Caffe Sanora's (derived from the Italian word for health, “sano”) gourmet coffee packs more powerful antioxidants per cup than most green teas.
