February 2005: Press Release

Introducing Caffe Sanora - The First Antioxidant-Rich Gourmet Coffee

Caffe Sanora features a patented roasting process that retains potent antioxidants and premium gourmet coffee flavor

AUSTIN, Texas - (February 2005) - Applied Food Sciences, LLC introduces Caffe Sanora (derived from the Italian word for healthy, "sano"), the first premium gourmet antioxidant-rich coffee. Unroasted (green) coffee beans are a rich source of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols. Utilizing the HealthyRoast Process™, a patented roasting method, Caffe Sanora delivers these natural antioxidants normally lost through the heat used in conventional roasting. Caffe Sanora's roasting process is 100% natural and does not use additives or preservatives. For the first time, coffee lovers can enjoy health benefits similar to green tea in a great tasting cup of coffee.

"Heat destroys the antioxidants in traditional roasting; Caffe Sanora employs the HealthyRoast Process that preserves naturally-occurring antioxidants, yet does not affect the rich taste or aroma of premium gourmet coffee," says Loretta Zapp, CEO of Applied Food Sciences. "In fact, professional tasters, or 'cuppers' have said they can't tell the difference. Caffe Sanora is a great cup of coffee with fantastic health benefits."

Numerous studies have shown that antioxidants help prevent degenerative diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Caffe Sanora sprang from research dedicated to cancer prevention. In accordance with Caffe Sanora's commitment to fostering good health for coffee drinkers, a portion of proceeds furthers independent research at not-for-profit cancer centers nationally.

Green tea's popularity has soared recently due to its antioxidant-related health benefits. As coffee continues to rise in popularity (Americans drink 3.3 cups per day), Caffe Sanora allows people to enjoy similar health benefits without changing their daily coffee ritual, or sacrificing premium coffee flavor and aroma.

"Our goal is to offer the coffee lover a cup that tastes and smells just like gourmet specialty coffee, but provides antioxidant benefits similar to green tea," adds Zapp.
